Rustins Plastic Coating and Hardener Gloss Finish 250ml
Rustins Plastic Coating and Hardener Gloss is a two-part clear cold cure lacquer for use on wood, hardboard, cork and plastic laminates. Extremely good adhesion, resistant to heat, solvents and abrasion. Can be burnished to a mirror like gloss or rubbed down to a smooth, satin finish with steel wool and wax. An excellent finish for marquetry as it does not darken light coloured veneers and does not yellow or craze on ageing. Hard-dry within 2 hours of application.
Intended Use: Intended use bare wood, veneered wood, hardboard, MDF and unsealed cork. For interior use only.
Type: A two-part cold cure finish, based on Urea Formaldehyde resins, plasticised with alkyd and reinforced with malamine. The finish is highly durable, heat resistant, resistant to impact, abrasion and solvents.
Special Features: Enhances the colour of the wood. May be burnished to give mirror like finish using Rustins Burnishing Cream. The coating is almost colourless, but some woods may darken slightly.
Rustins Plastic Coating conforms to The Articles in Contact with Food Regulations.
Coverage 13-15m² per Litre per coat. This can vary depending on the absorbency of the wood.
Finish: Gloss
Size: 250ml

Rustins Plastic Coating and Hardener Gloss Finish Usage Instructions
Preparation: The surface must be clean, smooth, dry and free from wax, dust and contaminants. Nail holes and small cracks may be filled with Rustins Woodfiller. Bare wood may be dyed before coating with Rustins Wood Dye. Other brands of dye & stain should be tested for compatibility. Do not apply Knotting or Sanding Sealer.
Application: The mixing ratio is 1 part Hardener to 4 parts Coating by volume. Once mixed, it may be used for up to two days, if covered and kept cool. Use a brush, roller or lambs wool pad and apply evenly and liberally, finishing in the direction of the grain.
Coats: Two coats are usually sufficient on hardwood. Softwoods and cork may require a minimum of 3 coats, depending on the absorbency of wood.
Drying Time: Generally touch-dry within 30 minutes–1 hour, depending on the temperature and humidity.
Re-coating Time: May be re-coated after 1 hour.
Application Temp. Ideally 15-25°C. Do not use below 15°C, or in conditions of high humidity.
Maintenance: The surface may be kept clean by wiping with a mild detergent solution. Worn areas may be re-coated once cleaned and sanded, to provide a key.
Compatibility: The coating may be used over Rustin's Wood Filler, Rustin's Wood Dye and wood may be bleached before coating, with Rustin’s Wood Bleach. Important. If any other products are used, such as timber treatments or other brands of dye & stain, test first for compatibility.
Settlement: STIR WELL BEFORE USE
Clean-Up: Clean equipment immediately after use with Rustin’s Plastic Coating Thinners or Rustin’s Cellulose Thinners, as once hardened, the coating cannot be removed.
