It is designed to protect against wear and tear and repel dirt to keep the surface looking cleaner for longer. Thompsons Patio and Block Paving Sealer Usage Instructions
Usage Areas: Thompson's Patio and Block Paving Seal can be applied to block paving and flag stones including granite, cast and limestone.
NOTE: Some block paving may discolour or darken and a clear seal such as Thompson's Patio and Block Paving Seal will highlight this effect. Blockpaving with a high lime content and newly laid blocks may produce unsightly white surface deposits which may reduce with weathering. Test on a small, inconspicuous area prior to general application. Avoid contact with plastic and rubber materials (including footwear) whilst wet.
Preparation:
New Block and Paving Slabs: Blocks or paving slabs and jointing sand should be dry. In order to avoid dislodging the jointing sand, the sand should be well compacted and slightly below the level of the block or paving slab. (Also see note regarding white deposits above)
Existing Block Paving and Paving Slabs: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free fom grease, oil, dust or loose material that may interfere with the penetration of the sealer to be applied. Dirt, moss, lichen and other loose material can be removed by using Thompson's Patio and Paving Cleaner. Grease and oil stains can be removed by using Everbuild Oil Away Spray. Rinse thoroughly with water to ensure all cleaning residues are washed away. Brush area to be coated to remove all surface debris. Allow to dry thoroughly.
Application: Shake well before use. For best results use a long pile roller and a roller tray or brush. Surfaces should be dry. Apply an even coat to ensure all surface irregularities are covered. Attention should be paid to textured block paving slabs to ensure the surface is evenly coated and that the coating does not 'pond' in surface depressions. Brush well into the surface redistributing any surplus material. Apply 2 coats allowing 4 hours between coats. Extremely porous surfaces may require a further coat. Do not apply when rain appears likely before the material has dried.
Drying Time: The surface will be touch dry in approximately 1 hour. Light traffic is acceptable after 4 hours. However, Thompson's Patio and Block Paving Seal does not reach it's optimum performance until after a few days and should be left overnight before vehicles can be parked on treated blocks or before subjecting the area to heavy use. In cold, damp conditions drying and recoating times will be extended.
Clean Up: Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before cleaning. Clean brushes, rollers and other equipment immediately after use with white spirit or brush cleaner. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings. Do not empty product into drains or watercourses.
Wise Precautions:
1. Allow new patios to weather for one month before coating. Colour and appearance of block paving can change significantly with the applications of Thompson's Patio and Block Paving Seal. Always test on an inconspicuous but representative area prior to coating the whole area.
2. Avoid spillage onto surrounding vegetation and protect adjacent areas such as decorative coatings and plastic. Remove splashes whilst still wet with a brush cleaner.
