Rustins Brown Knotting is based on pure shellac and alcohol; it is naturally brown in colour. Rustins Knotting is for sealing knots, resinous and creosoted timber to prevent bleeding through paint film.

Type: Rustins Knotting is based on pure shellac and alcohol; it is naturally brown in colour. Rustins White Knotting is also available which is made with bleached shellac.
Intended Use: For application to bare wood. Clean knots prior to priming/painting. To prevent discolouration of paint film. Use under oil-based and knotting-compatible water-based coatings.
Special Features: Fast drying. Prevents discolouration of paints. For interior and exterior use.

Rustins Brown Knotting Usage Instructions
Shake bottle before use
Preparation: The surface must be clean, bare and sanded smooth. Clean off any excess resin using white spirit and allow to dry. A heat gun may be used (taking care not to char the wood) to draw-out excess resin, then scrape away. If there are cracks or holes around the knot, fill with Rustin’s Woodstopping, allow to dry, and sand smooth prior to applying Rustins Brown Knotting.
Application: Using a brush apply Rustins Brown Knotting liberally over the knot and surrounding area.
Coats: Apply 2 coats. Do not sandpaper Rustins Brown Knotting.
Re-coating Time: Allow 1 hour between coats and before applying Primer.
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25°C. Do not use below 10°C or in conditions of high humidity.
Compatibility: Most types of wood primers may be applied over Rustins Brown Knotting, including Rustin’s Wood Primer (Pink, White and Aluminium) and Rustin’s Quick Drying Primer and Undercoat. If the knot needs filling, apply Rustin’s Wood Filler and sand smooth before applying Rustins Brown Knotting.
Clean Up: Use Methylated Spirits to clean brushes and equipment. Use Rustins Strypit to remove dried films.
